Steele Canyon emergency meeting Friday, 10:00 am

From Sherry Davidson
I just attended the Steele Canyon High School Evac Center meeting at 10:00am. Harold Windsor is the CDF CMDR and will be responsive to our needs and questions. The critical area is now Lawson Valley and Carve acres. They have pre-deployment and precontingency lines in place. The fact sheet was released as of 9:00am at www.fire.ca.gove, Joint info line 619 590-3160. 85,000 acres burned, Structures destroyed 155 residences, 2 commercial and 17 outbuildings, Damaged structures 250. The fire jumped a portion of Lake Barrett posing an immediate threat to life and property in the communities of Lawson Valley and Carveacre. Fire behavior remains active and in old and extremely dry fuels. Heavy fuels and steep terrain on the northern edge of the fire will present few control opportunities. Structure protection will continue in Lyons Valley. Many resource orders will remain unfilled due to competing incidents in the southern part of the state. Fire commanders will continue with contingency planning which could include secondary dozer lines as well as potential evacuations in threatened communities until containment is obtained.

Officials will not open prior road closures until all county agencies have signed off on safety issues of the area. They want to avoid what happened yesterday in Ramona. They anticipate Protero to be opened by 3 today. Dulzura is posing problems for re-population. Morena has a warning but is opened through Buckman Springs. They anticipate Dulzura and remainder of Jamul to be open tomorrow. Deerhorn and Buckman area possibly to be open by Sunday.

Steele Canyon evacuation center to remain open Monday. Tuesday School re-opens. Evacuation center can shift to Faith Chapel in Spring Valley.

Animal control announced that all deceased animals, in unincorporated area, no matter what size can be disposed of free of charge by calling 1888 299-9905.

Diane Jacobs announced that Cal Trans, Utilities, law enforcement and fire must sign off to re-open areas for re-population. False rumors were circulated that Federal agencies such as border related issues are not responsible for this re-opening. Diane Jacobs stated that we are in all phases of recovery issues. There are 30 teams for damage assessment and they are going property by property. New reports are published 2 times per day. You can check this at www.sdcountyemergency.com Note that it is not a complete list and keep checking. It is listed alphabetically (not according to fire name)

There is now a one stop emergency stop set up at Cuyamaca College in the old Student Center which you enter from Fury lane. They have 30 agencies and support available there.

Animal control number is 236-4248. People who would like to Volunteer can call 858 6364131. Mail for displaced people can be picked up at the El Cajon Post office on Lexington.

We were urged to register with Fema weather you did or did not sustain fire damage.

They advised to be aware of fraud.

If you sustained damage the Co assessor will reassess your property and reduce your taxes as a result of lower property value.

They did arrest one looter yesterday.

Lt Bolwerk is the commander of 4 and a half platoons of deputies in our area. I reported problems which I witnessed. He will address concerns in debriefing. I gave him this website and asked if he would respond to us all. He is set up at the Edwards theater/YMCA dirt area.
Good Luck and God Bless. Sherry Davidson
